Use Thanksgiving as a way to look back over the year and make special scrolls with awards for different family members. Let family members do the nominating. You choose the categories that work for your family such as "toughest survivor of a home renovation."
We found this idea over at Family Fun where you can also find more detailed instructions on making your own scrolls.
We have a few variations on our blog. Katrina made a framed tree. Instead of writing something you are thankful for on a leaf, and adding it to a tree, she has the leaves fall off the tree. Mimicking the fall of leaves on Autumn! Anjeanette made a beautiful fabric turkey into a keepsake you can use each year. Each feather is a pocket that contains a piece of paper of an activity to do to help teach your kids to be thankful. I printed up Autumn stationary and had my kids write thankful letters to each of wonderful people in our lives.
