Tie-Dyed Egg Kits

We don't know how these egg-dying kits work, but we love that they do. And we especially love how many ugly vintage ties they're taking out of circulation. But those paisley and stripes look quite nice transfered onto eggs.

The kits are the brainchild of Maude + Claude and offered by Mahar Dry Goods. Enough materials are included to make two dozen eggs and the ties can be reused to make dozens more. This is also a great opportunity to recycle old ties hanging in the back of dad's or grandpa's closet or some of the more outrageous ones you can find at thrift shops.

Buyer beware - I ordered from Mahar Dry Goods last summer, some of the items I ordered were unavailable, and they never refunded my money or replied to my multiple calls and emails. I don't usually speak badly of companies like this, but I was EXTREMELY disappointed.

No need to buy a kit--the instructions on Martha Stewart work just fine. I've done this a couple times now. Hit your local thrift store and buy some ties--they need to be silk--and have fun! It's always exciting to see how they'll turn out.

It's true, you can find instructions for this craft online. It's also nice to have all of the materials assembled for you. Maude Claude have gathered a great selection of vintage ties, sweetly scalloped fabric wrappers and twist ties - all smartly packaged in a clear, egg-shaped container that's great for displaying your finished project!
