Nickelodeon debuted a new live-action children's show at the end of last month called "Yo Gabba Gabba!" The show is hosted by the quirky DJ Lance Rock who looks as though he should have been a member of Dee-Lite.
DJ Lance begins each show by yelling, "Yo Gabba Gabba!" and then releases a myriad of fuzzy dancing monster characters from a briefcase. Each episode of "Yo Gabba Gabba!" also features guest stars which have included The Shins, Elijah Wood, Biz "You Got What I Need" Markie and Mark Mothersbaugh. The hipster factor seems to run high in the show.
In between the dance numbers, Club Kid-inspired costumes and guest stars are several cartoon vignettes, which teach children about manners and feel as though they were inspired by 1960s kitsch and Yoshitomo Nara.
"Yo Gabba Gabba!" airs weekdays on Nickelodeon at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Have any of you seen this show? What do you make of it? Is it a yay or a nay?

Yo Gabba Gabba is certainly not for everybody. I love that it inspires kids to dance and sing along with the show. While many preschool television programs teach kids about music and talk about dancing and how much fun it is, Yo Gabba Gabba actually teaches dance moves. For that, I think it's great. Other parts of the show, however, are a little too fast for my personal taste.

What's not to love? Cool, unique songs, real lessons to learn, colors that make your eyes pop. It's awesome. We watch it at least twice a day here. Everything else has (thankfully) dropped by the wayside.

My husband Tivo'ed every episode... and we have watched them several times now.
It's produced by the band The Aquabats... and it's one of the most fantastic things on television.
It's fantastic to introduce kids to the musical guests... that aren't teen heart throbs, they are artists/bands that WE grew up listening to.
It is fast paced... but so are lots of things these days... if you watch it from the beginning and are part of it from the start... it doesn't seem as spastic.
It's painfully hip... in that good way.
And I can't get that dang "Yummy in my Tummy" song out of my head.

Sarahrae, we went to friend's baby shower last week and everytime she walked by, my husband and I couldn't help singing, "There's a baby in my tummy - so yummy - so yummy" That song is hilarious!

Yo Gabba Gabba makes me think of Gabba Gabba Hey. I like the colors of the show, it reminds me of old Sid and Marty Krofft shows that I watched as a child.

If it is produced by the Aquabats, does it have mormon overtones to the 'lessons'?

...as if all media produced has overtones of the religion of the producers? Get real.

My kids love this show! And for once, it's a show I can enjoy with them and not yawn at the content or roll my eyes up in the air. It's fresh, a great design influence for our children and perfect for a young 20-something family like ourselves.
And that Party in Your Tummy song? My kids eat their veggies and food considered icky by other kids because they don't want to leave out anyone from the party. It's hilarious.
I just wish they had the toys out in the store. We love Brobee!

Are you serious "pdxcarrie"... you really think that it would have religious overtones?
If that were the case, I am sure it would have been mentioned in the review about it in the first place.
It is just plain wholesome fun for everyone.

this is a great show - my kid can sing all the songs and I agree that the "Party in my tummy" song has been the best thing yet for getting my 3 year old to eat all of the food on his plate.
