apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flickr Find: Handmade Play Tent

What a fantastic idea for occupying those deep corners that are created near beds and cribs. What's even better, Kim fashioned this cozy, colorful little nook for her daughter Haley almost entirely from items she found around the house.

Materials used: An old bathroom cabinet for storing little books and treasures, a reclaimed tablecloth, various pillows and sheets, and leftover yardage from a previous project.

Says Kim:

If you have 20 dollars, a little bit of patience and creativity, some old bed linens and a hack saw, I totally suggest making a homemade fort for your prince or princess! If you can't sew curtains or don't have a sewing machine available to you, hemming tape will do the trick!

We love this can-do approach to DIY projects. If you have your own project to share with the Ohdeedoh community, just tag your Flickr photos with "Ohdeedoh" and one of our editors will be sure to find it.

This is very cute.

Hoping for more details re: how to create - is it a freestanding frame built from PVC?

Looks like a fun playspace - very nice job.

I too was hoping for information, and perhaps instructions, on the construction - the fabric part is easy.

Hi all! Thanks for the comments- construction was very easy since my husband works at Lowes and kinda just "knows" these things.

I, on the other hand.... haha... I will ask him when he is off tomorrow for a list of materials for those of you that are curious :)

I know the basics- pvc, pipe connectors, and a pipe cutter but Ill get back to yall on the details!

i love all the different ,materials Kim used for this. the colors are really beautiful, cozy and inviting.
as for the construction question, one idea would be to use a large ring, drape fabric over it, and hang it from the ceiling. like a bed canopy. you can make the ring out of flexible watering tube from home depot connect the 2 ends with a wooden dowel.
