We can honestly say we've never seen cinderblock used to such great effect. This inexpensive building material is frequently used in modern construction, but we've never seen this simple trick: arranging some blocks so that they point inward and create mini-shelves, the perfect size for displaying toys.

I thought it was a shoe store!

Does anyone know the source for the two oval-shaped tables?

I have one of those tables.
Ours is from IKEA, not sure about those specifically though.

The tables are from IKEA.. I found them in the coffee table section. We bought them about 2 years ago so I don't know if they are still an IKEA item or have been taken out of stock.
As for the shoe store comments.. errr.. okay! Thanks?
We have 2 boys ages 2 and 3.. not a bump or a scrape yet due to the wall and these are two rough and tumble little fellas. Dn't sacrifice design for woulda coulda maybe's.. kids will get hurt on anything.. and even though this room was not originally designed to be theirs.. its large size worked perfectly for all their "stuff" and all of the naturallight and view into the courtyard make it an amazing place to hang out and play.. here is a link to the other side of the room before we bought a bunk bed: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2018/2321076205_38553a9f42_o.jpg

I love it. I agree with the one that said it didn't seem practical for kids. I imagine them bumping their head or scraping an elbow while trying to pick up a toy. Great design though!

Thanks! I didn't see those tables on the IKEA website, but I'll check the store, too. I have one just about 15 minutes from my house.
Oh, and I love the cinderblock! What a wonderful room!

Love it!! As far as injuries go; do your children injure themselves on bookshelves?!? Of course these are safe!
