Nyokki Pets Planters

nyokki_pets.jpg

Calling them Nyokki Pets is no misnomer for these adorable little guys, as Nyokki is the Japanese word for grow. Nyokki Pets are cute planters which come in a variety of animal forms: frogs, cats, bears, monkeys, pigs and more. Each glazed ceramic pet comes with media and rye grass seeds -- just add water, put a sunny spot and watch them grow even cuter.

Your children can help comb the Nyokki's "hair", style it with ribbons and even give it a hair cut. It'll be hard to decide who will love these little planters more, you or your kids.

In the springtime, we use real eggshells and a bag of red wheat grain from whole foods--grows super fast and is lovely! You can carefully crack the top of an egg and empty the contents, rinse the shell (color and decorate/draw faces if you wish, but I like to use natural eggs) Also, the wheat berries cost <$3....I also like to make rows of it in little votive cups on the window sill or plant in a little bit of soil in a big square tray. My children trim it with scissors when it grows too long.
