Plant An Indoor Garden

Sow some seeds. If you're lucky, you have a small yard. But for many of us, the dream of backyard greenery is just that: A dream. So there's little chance of having your child help you tend to a non-existent garden.

Egglings may be a great first step in teaching your child about growing their own food.

03.07.07 egglings2.jpg Shaped like a large chicken's egg (and roughly the same size), you crack an Eggling open, plant the seeds provided, water, then watch as your herbs and flowers grow.

Available in a variety of types, including basil, mint, and thyme, Egglings are compact enough to sit on a bookshelf or windowsill, provided there's some sunlight around.

We think that most children would enjoy the excitement of seeing the first sprouts poke through the dirt, then clipping the leaves to use in their dinner.

We couldn't resist starting a whole eggling garden, can't wait until the strawberries and peppers begin sprouting. It's tough to find something cuter than a little row of egglings.
