Good Questions: Nanny Cams

2007-12-18-nannycam.jpg

We received an anonymous email from a reader asking:

At the risk of starting a whole philosophical/legal/moral/ethical debate, does anyone know where i could find a nanny cam that doesn't scream "HEY! LOOK OVER HERE! THERE'S A CAMERA INSIDE THIS TEDDY BEAR!!" All the ones i've seen are ridiculously obvious. i mean, my nanny's no dummy. i think she'd get wise if i all of a sudden brought home a sony betamax! Thanks - and please AT readers, spare me the sanctimonious commentary.

Yes, we agree - the hidden camera in the teddy bear is a bit obvious. We started researching online and found a series of high quality hidden cameras by Warner Hughes Security. The clock radio model seems like an inconspicuous choice.

The clock radio system provides color video and offers a full 90 degree field of view. There are no extraneous cables coming out of the clock radio because the system is wireless. The only cord is an AC power cable. This clock radio system is a completely wireless COLOR system requiring no special skills. You just plug the clock radio into any AC outlet and attach the included wireless receiver to any VCR or television in your home.

The system sells for $499 here ($449 for the black and white version).

Anyone else have any suggestions?

How about a shadow box filled with different types and ages of cameras? With one of them being an active webcam?

i wish there were nanny cams when my siblings and i were kids. (the early 90s)... They would have seen one of our baby sitters smashing my sister behind a door and putting her on a window sill when she was bad. Kid's are so protected now, which is great.

I was not going to comment on this topic only because I do have an issue with this. But I am a mom and the child is my primary concern here not my opinion or anonymous. And ofcourse that's if this has to do with your child not your personal items? I read your question a couple of times to understand you sound desperate and wondered if you needed this nanny cam to use as evidence or are just curious?
If you have any reason to believe that your child is being mistreated or being harmed please forget the camera and go to the proper authorities. Please do not let your child spend another second with a person you feel might be harming your child. Don't put your child at risk simply to confirm what you already knew might be happening. If your not sure but just feel uneasy around this person then don't wait - get rid of them.
I hate to see when parents start using excuses as to why they can't just fire their nannies when they are soooo busy or can't take the time to interview new ones. There are sooo many excuses parents make (I know I was one of them) that in the end the one that pays is the child. Your child depends on you for protection not just material things. So please, if you have a trust issue with your nanny then fire them. If you feel there is something more here please don't wait another second and contact your local police.

go for it and please post what you found. I'm trying to help my sister locate one that is reasonably priced (200-350). good luck!
