Peter sent us an email:"My three-year-old is finally old enough to enjoy playing in the snow, but there are only so many snowmen we can make. Can you point me in the direction of some fun wintery outdoor toys we can use?"
Good question, Peter.

HearthSong offers a snow paint set that lets children decorate and "draw" on mounds of snow. Or, if you are feeling extra ambitious, HearthSong also offers a curved mold, which helps you build your very own igloo or snow fort.
Children also have fun emulating what they see their favorite grown up doing. This child-size snow shovel is perfect for those times you're shoveling and want a little company.
Any other suggestions for Peter?
On the one snowy day per year in my PNW childhood, my sister and I used to make "Little House on the Prairie" candy. I can't remember the details, but it had something to do with freezing dollops of molasses in the snow. As described by Laura Ingalls Wilder, obviously.

get out the sand toys... really 3 year olds don't need much to have fun in the snow.
- to be clear I have a 3 year old and I live in Montreal (lots of snow).
