Good Question: Little Riding Hood Books

GQridinghoodbooks-TOP.jpgKris sent us an email: A while ago, I saw a series (I think it was a series) of red riding hood books that were drawn very cool. Now that I think about it, I don't think riding hood was just red. I think she was a bunch of other colors, but I could be mistaken. Does any of this ring a bell? The drawings were a bit vintage but very cool. Help! I'm too lazy to do any research.

Ha! Thanks for your email and your candor, Kris! We think we have an answer for you...

The books you're referring to are Bruno Munari's Little Riding Hood books. Munari was an Italian artist and writer who was known for his painting, sculpture, film, graphic design, literature and poetry. He was a total Renaissance guy.

The Little Riding Hood series were first published in 1972 (A good year!) and feature the story of Little Green Riding Hood, Little Yellow Riding Hood and Little White Riding Hood -- which features all white pages, as Riding Hood is lost in a snowstorm.

Do any of you own these books? Are they as great as they seem?

Love, love, love these!!! I bought these for my kids, 7 and 2, a few years ago. They go on the special shelf, higher up, so we read them together, but they'll survive my creative (re:draws on everything) toddler. Any book by Bruno Munari is amazing and I highly recommend all parents to buy. "Circus in the Mist" by Munari is a must have book. I love it so much I just bought it for our school library. I've bought them from Dia:Beacon and moderchild.com. I'm obsessed with children's books and I spend as many hours as possible in bookstores (new and used) looking for amazing books for my kids. Munari's books rank high on my list of all time favorites. Munari's wood puzzle of interlocking animals would also be super for a child (it's a little pricey).
