Good Question: Local Places to Shop for a Doll House

2007.03.16.familyhome.jpg
Last week when we posted on Re-ment, Ohdeedoh reader Sleek asked, "Where can i buy a really nice dollhouse? There used to be a store here called the dollhouse store. But they closed down. They had the kits so you could either build your own or buy it already made. I really would rather not order the doll house online."

Good question, Sleek. I bet our readers can steer you in the right direction.

Sleek lives in Washington D.C. area, so readers do you have some store recommendations for Sleek?

Finding a good toy/hobby store in your city is always a special treat. In our area, we're quite fond of the independently owned and operated Berwyn Train Toy Store which is walking distance from our home. Although the name suggests trains, trains, trains there is also a great selection of Playmobil doll houses as well as some doll house kits.

What local toy stores can you recommend to all of us who may be in your neck of the woods? Please share!

In Atlanta, Bean Head Toys has some great wooden toys and dollhouses...I saw a Plan one and one that looked like a modern treehouse!

Hey Sleek. Tugooh Toys in Georgetown has a few dollhouses, including the REALLY COOL new Plan Toys one (Chateau? that might be the name... see the Plan Toys website). That's on Wisconsin in between O and P. There is also Sullivan's, which is a joint toy/art supply store. That is also on Wisconsin, a few miles past the Cathedral (toward Maryland). They carry a lot of wooden and name brands (not sold in regular toy stores), though I don't really know if they have any dollhouses.

We move around quite a bit (8 states in under 5 years), and I have the best luck finding stores, doctors, etc. by using yelp.com or posting a question in the kids/baby section of Craigslist.
