Good Questions: Affordable Doll Crib and High Chair?

crib051109.jpgAmy writes: Hey all, I'm looking for a cute baby doll bed or crib with matching high chair for my 3 year old daughter's Birthday. I would rather not spend a fortune but would like something that will last and look great in her room. Land of Nod has a cute set but it seems a little too pricey. Any ideas?

If you are looking for dollhouse size, check out PlanToys. They have a great set for around $20. If you are looking for doll size, Ikea makes them for pretty cheap. For either, check craigslist for used ones, yard sales, message boards, etc. Some may need a fresh coat of paint or just a good scrubbing, but you can get them cheap. My mom got my daughter an adorable old iron doll bed that looks a lot like her curly Ikea bed. It needed a couple coats of spray paint & then it was done!

We have these from Magic Cabin. We like the modern look. The cradle comes with a little pillow and duvet---so cute. The high chair can be used two ways.

I second the suggestion for used ones--I haven't even been looking and I've seen ads for doll beds, etc. Try Craigslist, eBay, etc. They'd be easy enough to repaint and you can get some very pretty colors of spray paint these days. And if you sew or know someone who does you could make bedding for quite cheap using odds & ends of fabric, ribbon and lace. Little girls often adore that sort of thing.

I have a free set of instructions for building your own cardboard doll furniture on my blog - just go to http://fortytworoads.blogspot.com and look for the "free instructions" section in the column on the right. You can make a bed, chairs, and a table for an 18" doll/stuffed animal.

There is a darling white wood crib & high chair at Target stores. It is the Circo Target Brand. Sold separately. The pair is about $60. They are a traditional style, such as you described. Both are compact, but large enough for the 12-18 inch dolls that many young children enjoy. I have purchased the set for my own daughter and searched extensively for the item before finding it at Target.
