Ohdeedoh Reader Kristen needs your help. She wrote and asked us the following: There is a lot of love on Apartment Therapy for FLOR (and also some hate), but I think we're ready to take the plunge. We'll be carpeting over some linoleum floors in our two young daughters' (2 months and 15 months) bedrooms in a rental. We like FLOR because we will be able to take the tiles with us when we leave, so it doesn't seem like a huge waste of money. My question is: which one to select? Has anyone used FLOR in their nursery? Which line did they select? How did they like it? We're considering Toy Poodle, but I am wondering whether it is plush enough for a baby's room. Please share your FLOR experiences!

We used Toy Poodle in orange, blue, purple, and cream. They have held up pretty well (3 1/2 years). I would probably not do cream again, since it is harder to keep clean. We have also used the navy in our living room, which gets more use. Overall, we have been happy with them - they are plenty soft for playing on the floor.

We are using "Walking on Clouds" in our nursery. It's super-plush but also dense, so we have no worries about our son topping over occasionally. And I can lie on my back comfortably without a cushion.
We love it so much we're thinking of using it in other rooms.

I recommend ordering a box of samples from flor.com. You can order 6 different samples for $6 and check the softness of various lines. The toy poodle wasn't soft enough for my taste, and I ended up not using flor in the nursery, although I did love the color choices and the flexibility. My other flor advice is to get something with some texture to it, as the completely flat line (can't remember the name, sorry) shows every speck of dirt/pet hair/etc.

Yes! We used it in our toddler's room and in our baby's nursery. We used Toy Poodle in the toddler's room and Walking on Clouds in the nuresery. We've been very happy with the results. I have a few photos on my blog, or I can email them to you....

For what it's worth, we didn't get Flor tiles until our son was a little older (like 6 months), so softness wasn't as big a factor. My point being, once you're beyond the point of worry about them tipping over onto their noggins, we found that any thickness of Flor-ing will do. We ended up getting the cheap pre-fab sets from Target (6 tiles in 3 related colors for about $55/6 tiles). We bought 2 set's of 6 and my 19-month old son loves playing and driving his little toys all over it. And there have been some messy accidents on individual tiles and we just clean and air-dry overnight and still all looks good as new (with vacuuming about once/week).

I am in love with Flor and have used it for 3 or 4 years now. Definitely do the sample thing first for feel. We have Thick & Thin in Cocoa/Chocolate in my son's room (he's now 2 and uses the blue and brown stripes as water and roads for his vehicles) and we have Take a Ribbing in Slate in my daughter's room and Shagri-La in Cream and Smoke in our bedroom and some in our Living Room (where my son plays a lot). These products are great and wear well. I would recommend ordering the older dot style where it sticks to the floor as the new style is harder to install especially with the shag styles.

We used the charcoal grey Fedora style in our nursery. It's quite thin; we have radiant heat, so we didn't want anything plush that would prevent the heat transfer. I love the way it looks, but it does show lint, etc., very easily. A lighter color might not have the same issue. It was very easy to install, and I would definitely use it again.

One of my concerns is not only the plushness, but the cost! At $6/ish a sq foot, it seems expensive... do people feel like it was a good value?
Jora, I would love to see your pics! My e-mail is klejnieks at gmail.com

I, too am a Flor addict. I have Toy Poodle in my nursery, Walking on clouds in our Toddler's room and House Pet in the living room. (I also have a cat and a dog besides the two kiddos, and it has worn well.) However, the Walking on Clouds has worn MUCH better than the Toy Poodle (in TP, we have the brownish gray with one stripe of the orange)....my littlest one was a spitter-upper and it has been hellish to keep the carpet clean. My other guy was a spitter too on the Walking on Clouds (chocolate and light blue) and it was much easier to keep clean. This is one of those things you won't think about until you're running the SpotBot for the 16th time in a month during your hour free on the weekends while the kids are out on a walk with Daddy.

Hey Flor users, I have a question: has anyone used flor tiles over carpet? Area rug style? We are renting a house right now which has light colored carpet in the dining room (who does that? Ugh!) and with three little kids, that will be mostly impossible to keep pristine. I thought maybe flor tiles in darker/patterned colors would keep the occasional juice spill from costing us our deposit. Thoughts?

I feel it was a great value because you get exactly what you want for size and yet it's easier to clean and durable. I don't know if I'd do it under a dining table as there are still seams and food or liquid could get through and you'd have to be checking often for that.

We put Modern Mix in blue in our baby's room... it's not very plush, but enough so that it's warm under your feet, which is all we wanted. We only have a very small area in front of the crib though, so it only took 8 tiles.
