Good Questions: Booster Seats

2007-04-05-booster.jpg

Mjoe left us a question in her comment yesterday about the The Yellow Pages Booster Seat : The Yellow Pages is cute, but I'd really like to find a reasonably attractive, or at least innocuous, simple booster seat. For cheap. Our bright blue Fisher Price thing works just fine, but I'm sick of it. Ideas?

Well, here's what we came up with on the booster front:

BabyBjorn has a simple white booster seat available at Babies 'r Us for $34.99.

It's a little bit more expensive, but we also like the HandySitt Booster Seat available at Mini Jake .

Finally, we also like the Cooshee Booster seat- most suitable for "in between" toddlers. That's available here.

Anyone else have a booster seat to recommend?

My son was sitting on my Complete Works of Shakespeare (which was a bit taller than a yellow pages) until I finally broke down and bought my Tripp Trapp chair.

While it was a bit expensive, it made more sense to buy a real chair we could keep around long-term other than another item we'd have to get rid of in a year or so.

We also have the stokke chair, and really really love it.
We'd been using a booster seat previously, but my daughter never seemed all that comfortable in it (case in point: look at the bent legs in the photo featured above). Since getting the kinderseat (we bought it before they redesgined), she sits at the table much longer, and in fact, eagerly climbs up into it at mealtime.

We've had it for a year now, and to this day, I say it was the best money we've spent on any gear. Well, that and the mei tai, but that's for another post. :)

I have been thinking about getting a tripp trapp too. My son sits in a blue fisher price booster that i can't stand and my kitchen chairs are getting filthy from it. He is a little over 2, do you think it is too late to get the stokke seat? We have another one on the way in October also.

Third rave of the tripp trapp:
We bought ours when my son was around 16 months. We already own a cushie booster for our banquette but he wasn't ready for that and my 4yold daughter wasn't giving it up. We've had the chair now for over 6 months and are very happy with it, I see us using it for years. The cushie booster is easy to clean and way cheaper, but I'm tired of cleaning the crumbs and stuff from the banquette cushions and having to remove the booster if anyone else wants to sit down. We have all sat in the stokke chair at one time or another. It's well made, well designed, easy to use and clean.

I am huge fan of the Tripp Trapp (note I don't have kids, but I'm a professional nanny). Many of my clients have them, and I love to use them with kids at the counter (cooking, playing in the sink, doing other projects).

Trisha L., I think two is a perfect age to get your little guy started on the chair.

My son will be turning three in June and and he just loves it. He climbs in by himself and can just as easily climb out -- and I think the fact that he sees himself in a "real" chair, like his mama and papi, really makes him feel proud.

Thanks so much for all the advice. We will be getting one soon, now time to pick a color! Wish I would have gotten one much sooner.

*sigh* I've admired the stokke for a long time, but $200 is more than I can spend on a sofa, much less a chair. Wish I'd had the foresight to ask for it at my baby shower. But this thread reminds me to look for an incredible deal on e-bay, you never know.

For now, looks like the Cooshee is a good option for me. Thanks!

we love our stokke, and we also picked up a handysitt chair (both at a dwr warehouse sale, hooray!). the handysitt has been really great for visitors and it folds up and stores really easily. it's also been very easy to carry out with us to other people's houses, and it adjusts to fit all sizes of chairs. we love it, and we find it more attractive than the plastic ones (though admittedly it's not cheap if you don't happen to find it on sale)

... and found this alternative for 1/2 the price of the Stokke:

Has anyone here tried this?

We got a kinderzeat for... drum roll... $10--yes ten--at a stoop sale. So keep your eyes wide open when you pass one!
It was sans a buckle strap, and Stokke sent us a replacement, free of charge, no questions asked.
