Ohdeedoh Reader Haley sent us an email asking: Dear Ohdeedoh: We're expecting our second child soon! They will be about two years apart so we're looking for a good double stroller to use in the city. We really like the Phil & Ted's Sport Double where the seats are lined-up with one another rather than side-by-side. Living in the city, we need to be able to maneuver through crowded sidewalks and narrow doorways.
Does anyone who uses this stroller give me your detailed review? Thanks!

I live in London and have two little boys, so a double buggy (that isn't double-wide) is a MUST. We bought the Phil&Teds sport buggy and have been generally happy with it. I didn't like it in the beginning because it seemed the baby (in the cocoon) slanted downward, so his head was always cramped. He didn't like it, so we never used it (I just carried him in the Baby Bjorn, and pushed the older one in the Bugaboo).
But since the baby has been big enough to sit in the seat, the buggy has worked well. (The older one sits in the lower seat because he prefers to get in and out himself. And no- he never complains about the bad view)!
My only other complaint is that the break is hard to push down, and even more difficult to release. (Maybe it was just a flaw with mine)?

I agree about the brake, but I don't mind it too much. I just assume it's a little safer that way. I actually wrote about this stroller in blog recently. See it here..

We have the sport. We have the same issue with the break. It's really hard to use and doesn't seem to be loosening up. We only have one baby so we can't speak to using the second seat. Here are our little issues with the P&T... (1)The sun shade doesn't provide much protection. (2)When the seat is reclined or the second seat is in place the basket is very hard to access. (3)It's borderline too short for people over 6 foot. (4) you can REALLY pinch your hands if they are in the wrong place when folding(ouch), (5) There are 3 settings for recline but it seem there should be one more option between flat and recline.
On the plus side... Great control, looks great/lots of compliments : ), slim for getting around tight spaces/we can bring it everywhere. Ive heard from others that kids actually fight over the back seat, they prefer it.
Overall (even with all my whining) it's the best option for city dwelling double strollers.
Ive heard that new-an-improved P&T models are due early this year but they have been delayed several times already.

We have this stroller too and I have to admit I have experienced the pinched finger once. However now that I know I will never do it again. I don't have a problem with the break on mine. It works well and is easy to use. I love the manuverability of this double, I can even use it while shopping in most stores. My kids are 1 & 3 now and both love to sit in the back, it's like a little hiding spot for them. Be sure to use the mud guards so that fingers don't get caught in the wheels. We live in Vancouver so we have the double rain cover for the stroller as well and it is fantastic!

We have this stroller, and we did buy the apple green lone, LOVE IT!! (in my head, that totally sounds like Dragon Tales;)'
We have been using our as a single and double for over 18 months now and I really couldn't be happier with it.
I've never pinched my fingers.
I do agree courtney, when babe was small it did seem like his head was a little lower than his body, but I'd just pad under his head.
My eldest boy at 3.5 prefers to sit in the rear, but really is getting to heavy. I've been stopped in the mall and asked how I like my stroller. Both boys were sleeping, what's not to like!
You do lose out on basket space, but that was a trade off I was willing to take. I did not want to have a ginormous stroller that was way to wide or way to long. Plus, the money we would have spent on a double to have it sitting in our garage once eldest boy no longer wanted to ride was not an option for me. Add in the manufacturing and shipping... Not an option.
There are also the options of the sit n' stands. I didn't want one of those as I know my 3.5 year old still sleeps in the stroller. It was a great decision. Plus, they are really long because the handle has to reach sooo far beyond the seat.
The valco is another similar option with a secondary seat but it can only be added to the front of the stroller and has a much lower back, think booster seats that clip onto tables.
I recommend this stroller to everyone it would suit. I have not for one day regretted this purchase, even though I don't live in an urban center.

i so want to love the P&T, but it's disconcerting to me that the younger baby is below the older child -- I would be paranoid about the baby being so low to the ground, closer to exhaust, etc etc. The new Baby Jogger City Mini Double is getting fab reviews!

We just recently got the P&T Sport for my 21 month old and newborn boys. This thing is pretty awesome as strollers go. Just before the baby came we used it as a single and a double when with friends. Our toddler son rode in front and back and liked both seating positions (fell asleep easily in both). Now we have a two week old who lays flat facing us in the main seat and our toddler is in the second seat in front. Our newborn sleeps well with sway and bounce of the seat and his head doesn't seem to be lower than his body. I love that we can walk through small spaces, aisles, and sidewalks like before and not have to think about it. It is comfortable to push for both of us with the height adjustable handle and it takes bumps and cracks amazingly well even with two toddlers. The basket is difficult to access when used as a double, but we are light packers and have the Skip Hop Spark bag from Target that can attach to the handle or side of the stroller, so it's not so bad. The brake is pretty stiff and usually takes me a few tries to operate. The sunshade is limited, but that unfortunately seems to be an issue that most strollers have, in my experience. After a lot of research and testing, this was our choice for its versatility, durability, and compactness.

We bought the P&T double back in 2004 when our son was born (we knew we were going to have another child soon, so planned ahead!). This has truly been our favorite stroller: easy to use, great in airports. Our son (the older child) actually requests to sit in the back these days. His sister doesn't mind either seating. It has been one of our best child equipment investments to date
