Good Questions: How to Use These Houses for Wall Decor?

houses012709.jpgMartha sent in an email: Wondering how to use these adorable little houses I got from Scarlet Fig. I bought like 10-12 of them in a fit of glee, thinking they'd be great wall decor in my toddler daughter's room...

We moved last summer, and I haven't done a thing in there because I didn't have an idea until I saw these cute houses. But now I'm stuck for how to implement them! In a grid? On a painted "street"? On a shelf? Clustered? Scattered?

Help me, Ohdedoh!

What do you think would work out best for Martha? Please let her know in the comments....thanks!

Hmmm... I was going to suggest a grid, which I still think would be great, but the painted street idea could be so sweet.

Or maybe in a circle... http://www.flickr.com/photos/moline/2890443464/

Can you use the ribbon to link them together like a penant and then hang it across the wall or over a window?

I vote for shelves/picture ledges, which you could run continuously along the length of a wall or mount at intervals on just one wall. I thought fellow ohdeedoh-er Emily's use of picture ledges from Ikea to hold books was a great idea ( http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/kids-color-2008-entries/ohdeedoh-kids-color-contest-entry-36-aubriannas-joy-joy-joy-room-068672 ) - maybe you could mix in some books or photos too.

I don't know if you have stairs, but if you do, I like the idea of putting them on small shelves (cubes, short ones) up above the bannister so people can see them as they go up. Also, I'd put one on my art shelf in my living room so it would be variety with the flat art.

also, I can see them in between these wooden trees they have at Urban Outfitters that are jewelry stands.

I would create one of these and then "hang" the houses like bird houses from the branches.

You could paint the silhouette on the wall and then use fabric and starch to make the leaves:

Thanks for the ideas everybody. I love those collages especially, Amy. Maybe I can figure out a way to do my own!
