Good Questions: Looking for a Similar Rocker

rocker051309.jpgBrooke sent us an email: I have been scouring your site trying to find some inspiration on how to decorate my second baby's room. I found the picture of this rocking chair and instantly fell in love! I've searched on-line and I've searched on Craigslist, but I can't find anything like it. Where do you find a rocking chair like this that is a reasonable price?

Keep looking, you're on the right track. If I remember correctly, this poster bought this rocker and had it recovered in the pink material. I looked on ebay and craigslist for this type of rocker for a while (though I'm now going a different direction) and they're definitely out there. I searched for "mid century" and found some that were almost identical on ebay. Many ebay sellers were willing to ship the rockers, too.

I have this exact rocker design, but in desperate need of reupholstry, a project which I have not gotten to and probably never will......if you are in the New York area, and are willing to clean it up and have it upholstered, you can have it.

Hey Brooke,

That's my post and my chair! I found it on eBay using the keywords mid century and rocking chair. I live in San Francisco and the seller was in Iowa. I paid $200 for chair and almost as much for shipping. I found the fabric at mainecottage.com. It was on sale for $15 a yard. I purchased four yards. My plan from the start was to have it reupholstered. I had no idea how much that would cost. Turned out to be very pricey. $640! All in, the chair ended up costing around $1000. Crazy, I know! While it wasn't what I had anticipated to spend, I feel it was worth it. I love that chair and hope to give it to my daughter one day.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Mary H! Thanks for your honesty about the cost. I get discouraged by all the posts about people who find perfect piece after perfect piece for next to nothing. Sometimes, I think people aren't really being honest about all the costs that go into the "perfect" piece. The room is wonderful, but your honesty really made me smile!
