Kate sent in a good question: My giant baby (29 inches, 22 lbs... at 6 months) has outgrown his Oeuf bouncer, and we need a chair for him. I'm hoping you have a good cute/stylish not-quite-toddler chair suggestion that doesn't cost and arm and a leg....

We used the Bjorn Sitter 1-2-3. Ours was rated for up to 30 pounds. It looks like they have a new model out now with many more color options.

now I'm depressed. My son is 22 months ad 22 pounds.

The bumbo would be too small for a child of that weight and height. Definitely a waste. We bought the Bjorn sitter off craigslist and loved it, but by 7 months old, my daughter was also 29 inches and could put her feet on the floor when seated in it. o I don't think it would work for Kate.
How about using the mini-Poang with a seat harness? Like this or this?

The Svan goes to 30 pounds but is a little more pricey than the average baby bouncer.
The Infant to Toddler Rocker isn't pretty but it goes to 40 pounds (http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14995293&RN=7082&). The lines aren't too bad - just the cover/colors. If you sew or know someone who does maybe you can fashion a custom cover using the current cover as a pattern? Looks aside, this has gotten nothing but rave reviews from moms I know who have the rocker.

Don't discount the Bumbo yet! My daughter was given one when she was 4 months old. She loved sitting in it, and then loved escaping from it! She went through a chubby leg phase and really hated the seat then because she ended up wedged in, but as she slimmed down and grew taller, it was better. For a while it didn't get used, but now that she's 2 1/2, it's her favorite place to sit. She uses it when I'm in the kitchen - she knows she can watch me cook but has to use her chair - she carries it over and plunks herself into it.
I like the idea of going with the infant-toddler rocker and recovering/slipcovering it.

I agree that the Bumbo won't work. I have a baby who was about 23 lbs at 6 months and it didn't fit him at all. I couldn't even wedge his pudgy little legs in there. My 3 year old can fit in it better than my baby! So, unless you have a freebie hand-me-down bumbo, I wouldn't waste the $.
Good luck! Big babies are tough to fit, but SO ADORABLE!

Don't be depressed SOL! Babies, like people come in many different shapes and sizes...this from a mom of a preemie who is 13 months and weighs 21 pounds. I've agonized all year over this weight thing and I resolve not to do it anymore.
As for a chair...I would get a jolly jumper-the original goes to 30 pounds. You might find that your babe starts to slow the weight gain after 6 months and will use it for a long time. At least, I suggest this if you are looking for something that occupies, delights and tires so you can get a load of laundry in. Oh yeah, don't leave unattended and all that jazz. I just found that after about 6 months it was about activity instead of soothing. When he was up, he was UP.

We have a chair like the Ikea one shown above (I think it came from Jysk). When my toddler "skoots" to the front of the seat to get out, it tips and bonks her in the head. No fun!

Sol -- I think mine is 21 (at 22 months). They'll be fine.

We have the Boosty Yea booster seat - somehow it's become a little chair for our son (2) and now our daughter (10 months). We got ours from www.thespottedgoose.com - but I'm sure they're available elsewhere.

I have a baby almost 7 months old & about the same size. Around 4 months, our DD was so big that her Fisher Price bouncy chair became more of a hammock than a chair.
We have a BebePod, like a Bumbo, and hardly ever use it because I'd rather have her sit on the floor with a Boppy around her where she can get more movement. Also, with cloth diaper and chubby thighs, we'd really have to wedge her in the BebePod.
If we want her to sit somewhere where she can't get anywhere, we're more likely to use her high chair. Otherwise, we use an exersaucer if we want to put her somewhere a little more entertaining. Okay, not stylish, but I think there was an earlier topic on Ohdeedoh about finding a not ugly exersaucer. We also have a Fisher Price swing in which the seat is removable and turns into a baby seat or toddler rocker. Also, not stylish, but the above slipcover idea could work.
It's an awkward time, right now, but it'll pass. I don't know how close your babe is to sitting up, but with ours, it was as if a switch got turned on. I wouldn't spend any money on a chair just for this age. If anything, spend it on pillows and baby gates.
