Christine is looking for some suggestions: We are currently converting our unfinished basement into a playroom for our two boys (2.5 and 5 years old). We want this space to be very kid friendly and safe since there's always alot of ball throwing going on. My concern is with our ceiling fixtures. We've already had them break one and we really don't want this to happen again...

I'm so glad you asked... we have the same problem! The ceilings are low, so it's a big problem. We currently have only wall sconces so very little light. Is it possible to get track lighting (that will fit between our rafters) that is very durable and actually looks great? Blast these kids and their balls!

Check out these bulkhead lights from Home Depot: http://tinyurl.com/body47
They are technically exterior lights, but I don't see why you couldn't re-purpose them and use them indoors. Anyone know?
(You can find more if you do a Google search for bulkhead lights, or bulk head lights.)

Those bulkhead lights from home depot are pretty decent; they're actually made of plastic with a glass insert. I spray-painted mine silver (I heart you, Rustoleum Universal) before I put them up, and they look a lot nicer than I expected. HD's site doesn't show it, but there is a larger version of the light with two bulbs, which is probably better for general lighting than the one-bulb version.

Forgot to add - the pressed glass insert is rather substantial and I don't think it would break easily once it's inside the cage.
