Good Questions: Source for Party Tissue Globes?

tissuespheres011109.jpgEmily sent in a question: I am planning my Son's first birthday party and I am looking for some fun decorating ideas. I would love to decorate with some of the honey tissue paper globes shown in February 2006 Martha Stewart Living issue (picture shown, left). But I am having no luck find them. Can some ohdeedoh readers point me in the right direction? If you have a copy of the issue in question the source of the globes might be listed in "the guide". Any other fun decorating ideas are also welcome.

I saw packaged versions of these being sold in the craft dept of Walmart a few weeks ago. Or, you could make your own: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/article/pom-poms-and-luminarias

You can buy a kit here: http://www.marthastewartcrafts.com/detail.php?p=60152&v=msc_occa_parties

Or you can make similar paper flowers with these directions: http://papercrafts.michaels.com/pdf_downloads/fancy_paper_flwr_takeaway.pdf

Also, Michael's Craft Stores sell Martha's line of poufs - I actually just bought a bunch yesterday for a baby shower I'm hosting. At the location near me, there was a pink/peach set, a blue set, and a set of white with pink flowers. All lovely, but way more expensive than making your own (about $20/7, if I remember correctly).

Oriental Trading sells tissue paper balloons, which look similar. They're pretty inexpensive. I'm planning to use them for my son's first birthday too!

I used a ton of these for my wedding in 2004 and they were surprisingly hard to find! I ended up ordering from here. They have larger ones than Oriental Trading, although I've used theirs for baby showers since then and they were fine.

Hey there! I stumbled on them in our local Wal Mart in the craft department, and as far as I know all Wal Marts are now carrying Martha Stewart's line of party supplies. I've thrown 2 parties using these. Afterwards, I grouped them all together and made a pink, fluffy light fixture for my daughter's room!

Also - is your child a boy or girl? I would be happy to send you the handmade fabric garland I made (pink, orange and brown)... can't bear to throw it away but don't know anyone who can use it. Here it is.
