Good Questions: Suggestions for Making a Blog Book?

book050409.jpgMolly sent in a "blogger dilemma" question: I'm the mom of two girls ages 3 and 8 months. When my first daughter was born I started a blog for family members and friends that do not see us often. What a great way to share pictures and stories about our life! So I have almost 4 years of our lives documented and I would love to get my blog onto paper...

I understand that blurb.com does not support Blogger.com blogs. Are there any other services available? I have a PC, so no MAC book for me. I don't have time to copy and paste every entry and would love to find a service that could do this at a resonable price.

Any suggestions for a blogging mom that doens't want to lose 4 years worth of memories?

Please share suggestions, ideas and recommendations with Molly in the comments below...thanks!

Are you sure Blurb doesn't support Blogger? This says they do: http://technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D1wwnTjQBvGo

Some of the blogging services let you export all your entries. Here's one way to do this: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/07/tool-for-backing-up-blogger-blog.html

Anyway, I did something similar to what you're talking about - I wasn't good about making a paper baby book, but I did keep a blog, so at the end of the year, I exported everything and laid it out using Adobe InDesign, illustrating it with photos from the year. Then I uploaded the resulting pdf to Lulu.com. Probably more labor-intensive than you want, though!

I haven't actually printed yet, but this interface is fairly easy to use and it will convert it for you directly. I do wish they had more photo options to make them larger, etc. but it does the trick:

I use Blogger for my blogging -- for exactly the same purpose as described. I also have used Blurb.com multiple times in a variety of ways -- including "slurping" from my blog. It pulled both the text as well as all the photos that I included with each Blogspot post. The book "slurped" well and printed beautifully. Not to mention, the prices were great! I highly recommend Blurb.

As others mentioned, I'm pretty sure blur supports Blogger. You can also try: blog2print.com.

I used Blurb to slurp my blog from blogger and got a fantastic book last September. My friends went to try it a couple months later and found that Blurb no longer supports Blogger, only LiveJournal or TypePad. What a sad day. (If any one wants to start a petition to blurb and blogger, I'll sign!) I had one friend temporarily transfer her blog to TypePad and slurp from there, which worked. But it adds a lot of hassle for busy moms!

I used blurb to make a book on blogger. I slurped it in December 2007. I tried to do another one a year later and it no longer worked with blogger but then I tried again a few months ago and it worked. The problem is not with blurb but with the fact that blogger keeps updating (in the code, now ways that the consumer sees) and blurb is not compatible. They hurry to work out the kinks and then blogger updates again. So, keep trying. I did find some message boards on how to transfer your blog to live journal or typepad and then slurp to blogger from that.

I love my blurb book but it is still a lot of work. Every entry is slurped into a standard format so I spent a lot of time selecting other layouts and proofing. I love the finished product though.
