Good Questions: Wooden Outdoor Baby Furniture?

chair062609.jpgAbby writes: I have a Summer dilemma that I am hoping you can help with. We live in an old brownstone in Boston and have a great stone patio where we have a grill, some cozy chairs, a coffee table and a nice outdoor rug. We also have a 10 month old that we'd love to "contain" while we are out there. Does anyone know of any great, wooden outdoor baby furniture? Or, something that we can leave outside (rather than lugging in and out) for the baby to enjoy? Thanks so very much!

I think you're better off lugging something in and out of the house. As a mom of a 4 year old, I've realized that many of things I bought to ''contain" my daughter had a relatively short lifespan of usage. Next year, your needs won't be the same and you might be considering a sandbox or kiddie pool or who knows what. Enjoy this busy baby time because it only lasts for a brief moment. You blink and your baby is suddenly a kid on a bike speeding down the sidewalk.

Good old LL Bean never disappoints me. They have a cute Adirondack kid's picnic table and kid's chair. Maybe a little big for her now, but she could definitely grow into it and it would be useful for years to come.

we purchased a very inexpensive wicker chair for my son (he i now 2) from Target, it is very sturdy and does not topple. It looks just like a mini adult one. I have also seen sets, of varying sizes and materials at large hardware stores (Bunnings in Australia).
Failing that, I made a table and chairs set for indoors, literally three pieces of MDF for the table, and little cubes for the chairs- with one piece larger for the back. Paint in enamel for outdoor use. By they way, I am by no means a carpenter and these pieces are used everyday in out house.
