Matching Cribs for Siblings...Or Not?
Good Questions

sunshower091809.jpgQ: I am in the process of decorating a room for my almost 1 year old daughter and her brother or sister who is due in late February. We have painted the walls with "Sun Shower" by Behr and the crib we have for my daughter is a dark wood. I'm wondering if I should purchase the same crib for my next baby as they will be sharing a room or go for something non-matchy?

Also with the color i've chosen for the walls, i'm wondering how I can make the room gender neutral (in case i'm having a boy) but still keep elements of girlyness on her side. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions in terms of bedding, art, etc? Thanks so much for your advice!

i vote for same wood, but different design. when we did our boys' nursery, we went with all white cribs, but all different styles. i like how eclectic it looks.

I don't think you should do matching cribs necessarily, but definitely stay within the same dark wood family. I think it would be nice to see complimentary cribs instead of matching ones.

The best way to stay gender neutral is with bright, warm colors instead of pastels. If you want your daughter to have a definite girly feel on her side, make her bedding pretty and fun.

In the kid room tours, you can see some great examples of yellow black/gray/white (like Charley Mae's room) and yellow aqua (like Little P's room), which are both great gender-neutral color combos.

Here are just a few bedding options I think could work:
Black, white & red graphic organic bedding from Walmart

Custom yellow/black/white bedding from etsy vendor

Custom yellow/aqua bedding from etsy vendor

Glenna Jean bedding for aqua/yellows

Just some ideas. . . there are lots of great dot (Skip Hop Mod Dot or the Target Dwell line) bedding sets out there too, and you can always play up one of the accent colors along with the yellow.

My daughter's nursery is a similar color orange. Here's a link to how we decorated it (we too wanted a gender neutral space....since we didn't find out what we were having till she was born).

I agree to keep dark wood/different crib. Yellow seems like a great base color...I would accessorize with bright pink/fushia on her side and turquoise/orange on his side.

We are doing this rug in our nursery http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/rugs-carpets-flooring/dream-menagerie-rug-070753
something like it might be a good way for you to tie all those color together...
