Mixing a Traditional Armoire with Modern Elements?
Good Questions

armoiresm081309.jpgQ: My husband and I will be welcoming a little girl in November and we are starting to gather together the things we need to decorate her nursery. We were given a beautiful armoire that we would love to use as a jumping off point in the room. Before getting the armoire we had planned on using modern elements in the room (like Walmart's Baby Mod - ParkLane 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, Amber and White and an Eames rocker) but since the armoire is more of a classic piece I wonder if I should be using something like a Jenny Lind crib?

i think something like this would work well with your armoire:

or this:

In my opinion, if you want modern pieces you should use the armoire somewhere else. Also, decisions will be a lot easier if you think about the style of the rest of your house/apartment:)

(sorry if this comes in twice, last one didnt post)

it is definitely a traditional piece, so if it is the inspiration for the rest of the furnishings, it should be a traditional room.

I will say that you could use that beautiful armoire in your toddler's room, once the crib stage is past. Or you could just go for eclectic.

I love the eclectic look that results from different design styles. I'd go ahead and use the modern pieces of the crib and chair in white. I think you'd need to pull in some "softness" from some more transitional pieces, and pull some of the color from the armoire. Put a pillow on the chair. Mix the prints on the wall. Add texture. But try not to clutter. Still keep it "clean" looking. Good luck!

I like these products and they may work in your room:

If you got simple white or cream modern pieces for your nursery they could go quite well with this armoire. You don't have to have all the styles match.

What a beautiful piece of furniture.

Remember this: You can do Anything you want!

Personally I would use the colors from the armoire as your scheme. As long as you keep to that in general, mix away! Your fabrics will also help tie things together. I seem to remember seeing very cool Dwell baby linens in similar colors.

I absolutely think you can use that armoire with the Baby Mod crib and make a gorgeous nursery! Consider doing the bedding in soft colors, but a modern print.

I would pick up the blue from the armoir detail and paint a Jenny Lind or simple wood crib that color. Those are great colors in the armoir. Serena & Lily have a lot of crib sets that are sweet and modern that could work...there's one called Wren I covet that's pale blue with embroidery that would be AMAZING if you can rob a bank first :) But really, their NURSERY STYLE book and their website have a lot of good inspiration for more eclectic rooms.
