Storable Sleep Options for Kids?
Good Questions

purple100509.jpgQ: I am looking for suggestions from readers on sleep options for kids. We have a very small cabin and need something for our 5 year old to sleep on that we can preferable store when not in use. I know when we were kids we slept on chair sleepers, not sure what else is out there.

I have a very small cabin, too. We have a trundle bed that fits under a daybed in the main space. Is that an option for you?

We had one of these when I was growing up. It was actually my first "big-girl bed" since I was sharing a bedroom and space was at a premium.

You could use this for seating during the day and sleeping in the evening.

When I was growing up, my grandparents kept an army cot under their bed. I thought it was such a treat to sleep on and it took up very little storage space.

Oh I need this as well... I am looking for some sort of bed roll that we can store under loft beds during the day... We have run out space for more beds to be floating about permanently but it is time for some short people to be sleeping in their own space!

I've seen bed rolls in all kinds of patterns at Urban Outfitters. They are twin sized, can be rolled up and stored, or even left out in plain view (because they look so nice!)

I have a spare crib mattress (bought our toddler bed on Craigslist and it came with one), which I keep under our queen sized bed for the little girl I babysit twice a week. She even pulls it out herself (she's 2). That way, both kids sleep at the same time, in different rooms, and I don't worry that she'll fall out of bed. And when she's not in it, it's stuffed back under the bed, sheet still on. Works great. Good luck!

We use one of these at our cottage. My son really likes it, and it gets really small when not in use.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I would have never thought of Urban Outfitters!

That pea pod thing is pretty cool. I kinda wish we had bought that instead of a pack-n-play - it seems like it would have been useful longer. Of course, now we're using it again with kiddo #2, but still :-)

We use an self-inflatable twin size Aero Bed for our 4 yr old when we travel. He loves it -- especially the part when it inflates. When deflated it fits into a small duffel bag.
Adults have used it too.
