Handmade Home by Amanda Blake Soule

070909-handmade-home.jpgWe may not always have the time to make the crafts that Amanda Blake Soule (aka Soule Mama) documented in her first book, The Creative Family, but perusing its pages always soothes our spirit. Amanda, a self-taught artist and artisan, has an amazing knack for making us see how creativity and connectedness intersect. No surprise, then, that we've been eagerly awaiting her next book ever since she announced it earlier this year. Handmade Home is a collection of 33 projects made using repurposed materials, from vintage feedsacks to old sheets and towels. Like The Creative Family, it seems as much about connecting with our loved ones as it is about crafting.

From the book description, here are a few of the projects covered in Handmade Home:

  • Papa's Healing Cozy: This hot water bottle cover becomes a simple way to offer comfort to a sick child
  • Baby Sling: A simple pattern for an object that offers so much to a small child—refuge from the world and a place to lay their head next to a parent's heart
  • Beach Blanket To-Go: Repurpose old sheets to create the perfect picnic blanket for special outdoor meals
  • Cozy Wall Pockets: A creative solution for storing a child's small treasures.

Handmade Home ($21.95) will be available on August 11, but signed copies are available for pre-order now in Amanda's online shop.

I just got the creative family in the mail, and I love it already. It looks like I'm going to have to pick this one up too!

I've been anxiously awaiting Handmade Home. Creative Family is on my bed stand at all times. Even though I read it right away when I received it last year, I can always find new inspiration when I flip back through it now and then.
