Tegu Blocks

We didn't think it was possible to improve on a classic like wooden blocks, but the folks behind Tegu may have just done it. They came up with the idea for these seemingly magical blocks while observing how kindergarten children work with building toys.

These magnetic blocks lend themselves to infinite creative opportunities, letting kids build everything from houses to DNA helixes.

The story behind Tegu is as compelling as these toys. Founded in 2006 by two brothers, the company is named after Tegucigalpa in Honduras. Chris and Will Haughey wanted to help a country and its people, and they quickly discovered that Honduras was home to beautiful tropical hardwoods which could be sustainably harvested. Inspired by classic European wooden toys, they started their toy business to address unemployment, neglected natural and human resources, and the need for entrepreneurship in Honduras.

Beech and huesito wood Tegu blocks retail for $85 for a set of 52 blocks. Limited-edition sets in mahogany are available for $125.
