Good Questions: Extra-Tall High Chair?

2008-02-14-tall highchair.jpg
Michele sent us this email:
We have a small kitchen with a bar that can seat 3-4 people. Our stools for the bar are 29 inches tall. Does anyone make an extra-tall highchair? (It would help if it is a brand I can find in France too.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, we like the Babylon from Argington. It has an adjustable height that is definitely high enough for a counter. Check out our previous post on it here.

A cheaper option might be the MeToo seat from Phil and Ted. You can watch a video of our very own Maxwell's Ursula sitting in one here.

Anyone else have a high chair at a high counter or kitchen island?

Try the Me Too Chair that you can just hook onto the side. We use that at our tall kitchen counter and it's fine for kids up to 40lbs or so.

I second the MeToo chair, especially if space is an issue. The maker is Phil & Ted (web site). We use this chair at home and take it with us whenever we go out. You can read a short review here.

We just started using the MeToo and love it for our tall counter. We even push the bar chair underneath the MeToo and she feels like she is sitting in the adult chair.

We're getting the Fisher-Price Space Saver high chair and strapping it to one of our existing counter-height chairs. I don't know if that'll work in limited space (it means getting a counter-height chair with a back), but it's not too expensive, sturdy, and easy to clean.

I can't remember what the device was called, but didn't Ohdeedoh recently feature some gadget that raises regular kitchen chairs higher, as an alternate to a booster seat? Would the same gadget not work with certain high chairs, such as the Antilop by IKEA?

As an aside, I have to say that the photo accompanying this post cracks me up. It could have been a portrait of me when my son was a baby... in the kitchen with the laptop on the counter and baby in a sling. Heh.

I have the prima papa best by peg-perego and I love it. It goes high, and I am pretty sure you can get that one in europe. Also it's foldable so you can put it away in your closet after mealtime.

We've got a clip-on chair (actually two since I've got twins) that work great on our kitchen counter/island. Mine are made by Zooper (www.zooper.com). These chairs are also great for travel, and we take them when we go on vacation or to someone's house that probably doesn't have high chairs but welcomes our family for a meal. From the photo of your kitchen, this might be a great solution (plus doesn't take up any room). The Zooper has a 5 point harness as well for safety, and we haven't had any problems with scratches from the arms. Your child will enjoy watching you cook and being part of the action!
