Nursery Tour: Cate Cordelia's Modern Library

cate-3.jpgChild's name and age: Cate Cordelia, due any day now
Location: Redlands, California

With a pair of book lovers for parents, as well as a wonderful literary middle-namesake (Anne of Green Gables fans will get the reference), it's a pretty sure bet that Cate Cordelia will grow up with an appreciation for books. Her mother, Andrea, who also happens to be a librarian, was gracious enough to give us a tour of Cate's nursery and show us the many ways that books and reading have been incorporated into this lovely room.

Nursery Tour: Zadie's A to Z Abode

2008-09-18-zadie4.jpg

Name & Age: Zadie, 4 months old
Location: West Virginia

Zadie's mom, Beth, channeled Tim Gunn while creating her daughter's bedroom: I see the space as a mix of modern and "make it work" because we really just had to use the resources available to us here in West Virginia with our limited budget. And make it work she did by adding functional pieces from Ikea (notably her brilliant use of the Trofast storage unit as a changing station) as well as memorable artwork including a fun mix of several alphabet card sets around the room's perimeter. The end result is a lovely space that is organized, uncluttered, filled with soft colors and has plenty of visual interest for young, curious eyes.

Nursery Tour: Nina Lou's Falling Waters

Nina-Lou-1.jpgChild’s name: Nina Lou, almost three
Location: Ville La Grand, France

If we were to try to describe - without showing you pictures - a child's room that combines a '70s wall mural and period French furniture with influences from Verner Panton and Hello Kitty, you'd probably raise a skeptical brow. We wouldn't blame you. On paper it sounds like an implausible mix. Fortunately, we have photos, letting you see for yourself that not only do these elements work, they're fresh and fun and childlike.

Nursery Tour: Zoe's Simply Modern Nursery

Zoe-1.jpgChild's name and age: Zoe, due any day now!
Location: Malden, MA

Baby Zoe is a lucky girl. She's not even born yet, and she already has a beautiful room fit to please a discriminating occupant of any age. Her parents, Winnie and Kevin, describe their style as "part Eames, part Ikea," stating that "good design can come from both expensive and inexpensive retailers, but ultimately it has to make the individual happy." Amen to that!

Nursery Tour: Haley's Red Delight

TOPTOURkimmacrib-all.jpg
Name: Kim and Baby Haley
Location: Southwest Virginia

You may remember Kim's room, from the charming clothes rack featured here last spring. A lot has changed in the nursery since then. What we love about this room are the traditional elements that are contrasted with the bright wall color and lovely handmade items throughout. The color of the wall (Valspar's Passion Pink) is definitely an unexpected pairing, next to the crocheted and vintage items.

Nursery Tour: Baby O's Closet Sanctuary on a Budget

baby o another view.jpg

Name of Child: Baby O, Arriving in October!
Location: Victoria, BC, Canada

Baby O's parents started off with the large walk-in closet in their master bedroom and made it Baby O's own. Even with their clothes still hanging on one side of the room, they created a warm but airy sanctuary spending only a little bit more than $400. Mom Jen shared a little bit about their inspiration and some great budget-friendly tips with us below!

Nursery Tour: Sonny’s Handmade Room

Sonny-1.jpgChild's name and age: Sonny, 3 months
City: Phoenix, Arizona

What we love about nurseries is the tenderness and care that goes into every single aspect of their design. Sonny's room is a wonderful example of this. Filled with handmade items from friends and family (in fact, almost every soft item in the room was crafted by hand), this nursery absolutely exudes love. Sonny's mom, Tina, who also happens to be an interior designer, taught herself to make everything from bibs to curtains to quilts. She shares her photos and tips below the jump.

Nursery Tour: Chase's Bed and Breakfast

2008-08-21-chase.jpg

Name: Chase (aka Chasey Bear, Chunger, Ace of Chase, Snakebite, and Butter), 3 months old

Location: San Francisco, CA

Like many families in small homes and apartments, Mary and her husband needed to create a space that their daughter Chase could comfortably share with visiting guests. They've done just that by choosing soft, warm colors and incorporating items they already owned as well as added in a few thrift store and Ebay finds. As long as Chase doesn't snore, everyone is happy.

Nursery Tour: Max's Magical Room

chalkboardwall-MAX.jpg Name: Katie and son, Max
Location: Southwest Ohio

When we stumbled upon photos of Max's magical room, we couldn’t believe how well every single part of the room was being used. The room is a perfect example of getting the most out of your space. Max’s mom Katie tells us, "...the biggest thing with a small room is organization. Everything has a place in his room, from the bugs to the blocks." Clearly, Katie is a whiz at creating a fun space for Max to play, explore and dream in.

As Kristin and her husband anxiously await the arrival of Baby O, from Vietnam, she already has a beautiful nursery all set. What first struck us about the room was how warm and inviting it was, while still having bold touches throughout the room as shown in the various Mod elements that Kristin is fond of.

Nursery Tour: Maya's Ikea Nursery with a Touch of the Caribbean

2008-07-29-crib.jpg
Name: Maya
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Perryne wrote us and called this, "our Ikea nursery." It's a great example of what a trip or two to Ikea can do. But add a few personal touches- in this case, fabric purchased in the Caribbean, and you've got a unique, budget-friendly space. The fabric, mounted on canvases, became the starting point for this colorful nursery. They really stand out against the more neutral palette in the rest of the room.
