Nursery Tour: Mia's Alluring Modern Loft

2009-06-miapost1.jpg

Name: Mia
Age: 5 months
Location: Omaha, NE

Welcome to Mia's airy, loft-like nursery. It may not be big, but it sure is bright, fresh and inviting. If you think wall decals are over, Mia's mom Meg (say that five times fast!) begs to differ and proves her point with well-chosen and well-placed decals which give the room a sense of gentle motion and draws the outdoors in with their nature motif. Like many of our favorite nurseries, Mia's is a mix of a few investment pieces with more affordable ones and is sprinkled with wonderful handmade accents made by herself and others. Meg shares some great advice and her resources below the jump...

Nursery Tour: Frances' Atypical, Camel-Clad Room

Name: Frances
Age: 14 months
Location: Chicago, IL

Don't let "camel-clad" fool you. Frances' parents are not interested in decorating in themes or overdoing any one idea. What they believe in is avoiding over-coordination to achieve the best sense of style, personality, and ease. Although most nurseries are created quickly and have short lives, we agree with mom, Karen, when she says the rooms that appeal to her are the ones that feel like they've been around forever...full of depth and life and variety. Nursery Tour: Little K's Sweet Dreams Room

2009-05-littlek_540.jpg

Child's Name: Little K.
Age: 2
Location: Missouri

We love having a little boy, but when we saw the room Nathalie put together for her daughter, Little K., well - it hurt a little! It's soft and sweet and, in our book, gives "girly" a good name. Little K's room has a magical quality to it without being themey or feeling like a catalog shoot (though it certainly rivals photo-styled rooms in its beauty!). Nathalie has mixed and matched brand name items with vintage, thrifted and handmade pieces with an ease and effortlessness that, frankly, we envy. And it doesn't hurt that she's an amazing photographer and can capture Little K's room in all its glory!

With a room palette rooted in neutrals, whites and yellows, Rachelle has set the perfect backdrop for some commanding kids' chairs and for Kenzie to take center stage. Through a lot of DIY and help from friends, this nursery (and the alphabet print) simply spells L-O-V-E...

Look! Surprise Nursery Designed by Dad

2009-05-dadnursery.jpg

Name: Julia
Age: 21 months
Location: Austin, TX

Julia's mom, Luciana, wanted nothing to do with light, pastel baby colors in this Austin, Texas nursery. Surprisingly, outfitting a baby's room with bright, saturated color proved challenging. Luciana did plenty of research, held on to her clear vision, and the rest makes for a happy baby room that matches Julia's own bright and bold personality. Kids' Room Tour: David's Bedroom

davidsroomtour-TOP.jpg
Names: David and Esther
Age: 3 1/2 years old
Location: Wellington, FL

It’s often a difficult task to create a room for a child that is no longer toddler-ish, yet not quite ’tweeny. Some items may be too small, while others not quite small enough. It’s a complete Goldilocks conundrum. Esther put together this nifty room for her son David and she seems to have found that happy medium. Take the full tour after the jump...

My Room: Lila Sage
San Francisco

Jennifer sent us in photos of Lila Sage's warm and playful nursery. She tells us: We moved two weeks before Lila Sage was scheduled to come into the world. The unpacking and concentrated nesting proved too much for her and she came a week early--so sadly her nursery wasn't complete until she was almost 2 months old! I was on a serious budget but splurged on the Baroque mirror from Brocade because it felt perfectly pristine and feminine. From there I felt drawn to pinks and browns inspired...

Room Tour: Ian's Whimsical Forest

042909viewintoroom.jpg
Name: Ian
Location:Yonkers, NY

We're rounding out our small spaces theme this month and about to jump into the Smaller Cooler Contest, so it seems a perfect time to highlight Ian's nursery- originally an open dining area enclosed to create this 7' x 12' whimsical room with plenty of multi-tasking furniture for maximum storage.

Nursery Tour: Easton's Ocean-Inspired Room

2009-04-easton.jpg
Name: Easton, nearly 3-months-old
Location: Calgary

Steve and Erin recently welcomed Easton into their lives and are now welcoming you to Easton's room! Their "loose underwater theme" brings focus to the room while still allowing the flexibility to introduce other elements (like a wonderful series of robot prints by artist Jeff Soto). Our eyes were drawn to the vibrant orange accent wall which pops against the other calming sea-blue walls and these colors, as well as brown and white, make appearances throughout the nursery. Steve and Erin also made their personal mark on Easton's room with their origami sea creature collage project. Read more about Easton's room after the jump.

Our Room: Parker and Landon
Morocco

Travelingmama tells us about putting together this wonderful room for her two sons: Around the same time that we moved into our new house last year we found out that we were having another boy. I was faced with the challenge of creating a room that was appropriate for a four year old and a newborn. My son, Parker, loves cars so I knew I wanted to include SOME cars, but I didn't want to room to be all "matchy" and "themey." Finding household items is very difficult here in Morocco...

Wow, such a magical room put together by Cadence for her son Shane! She designed the wall decals, photo display and illustrated blocks. She writes: My inspiration came from the amazing lamp shade by Tord Boontje which hanging in the center of the room. This room used to be our guest room with a queen size bed which I kept minus the box spring and the frame so we can snug up in the bed to read and play together. The theme of this room is Whimsical Fantasy Land....

My Room: Oliver
Toronto

Naomi put together a unique and wonderful nursery for Oliver. She writes: Oliver's room is a small awkward room that is perfect for a nursery. It is a cozy and happy room that we love to hang out in. I used a mixture of new and vintage items for Oliver's room. I had all the vintage items in storage or in other rooms of our house.
