so many of my babies injuries happen on his face or body. the helmet wouldn't help. it would just drive him crazy.

I can't believe parents are even considering purchases like this. Toddlers are going to get a few bumps and bruises - you can't just wrap them up in a protective gear and think that thats going to protect them from ever getting hurt.
This isn't Bubble Boy.

I'm a little puzzled - aren't we told that kids should take their bike helmets off when they play because they could get entangled in the straps and choke?
First off, my kids would never have let me put it on their heads, much less kept it on.
Secondly, those little bumps and bruises are important -- they teach babies consequences of their actions, teach them what they can and can't do, and what to avoid so that they don't hurt themselves. A couple of little bumps and bruises makes most babies (obviously not all!) more cautious and safety-conscious.

Oh well â we do have it. Our child broke his skull (not sure if it's the right word) when he was 7 months old, and he was just trying to stand up. Doctors recommended this â just for protection against minor bumps that may have occurred until the bones were ok again.
Little Giovanni didn't like it at first, but then we convinced him it was kind of cool so he kept it on most of the times.
@girlwithgreencard: no worries about the straps, they're tight enough for babies not to get tangled, it's no bike helmet.
Please don't dismiss it, you may find it useful sometimes!

Elisa - when used like a cast for a broken bone, this is (and probably always has been) a necessary protection. I'm sorry your child was injured so badly! Any parent would have used it to prevent further damage, of course!
However, dressing your child in it all the time as a preventative measure is still pretty silly.

I can't believe no one has mentioned how similar this helmet looks to the ones worn by the Rebel Forces on Endor in Return of the Jedi. Halloween costume anyone??

Maybe they could make a sturdy bubble to put your kid in to prevent injury, like John Travolta wore. This is just weird, unless it is a medical necessity.

A bike helmet, fitted properly, shouldn't cause entanglement and choking.

this reminds me of the bike helmets made to look like hats in that both made me laugh out loud.
kids with injuries of course need helmets, but kids without injuries certainly don't.

And the era of the paranoid, over-protective parent continues....
Where will it end? Full body armor until they're 23?

I really don't know if I could put my little one in that. :)
