Hot or Not? Mail Order Christmas Trees

111209christmastree.jpgWe love the convenience of online shopping, but we're not quite sure how we feel about this one yet. There is definitely something very appealing about it though...

The trees are apparently harvested and shipped on the same day, so they're very fresh. The company claims that they can last from Thanksgiving until New Years' without needles everywhere. So you get to avoid the hassle of going out to pick up your tree, lugging it home etc. But wait, is that really a hassle or part of the fun?

And of course, a tree delivered to your door isn't cheap. Plan on spending around $150. Shipping is free, but yeah, you're paying quite a bit for that tree already. The wreaths seem much more manageable at around $35 with free shipping.

Um, definitely hot if you live in a place that doesn't have cute Christmas tree farms. Or if you have three toddlers. Maybe in a few years we can take them down to Ye Olde Home Depot to get a tree, but for now this sounds perfect. Pity about the price...

My folks ordered one of these one year from LL Bean. It looked fantastic, and didn't drop needles if I recall correctly. It DID continue to relax for a while, so the ornaments would move lower over the course of a week or so but Mom often moved ornaments to suit her sense of aesthetics anyway so it didn't bother anyone much.

I could see it being a lifesaver with kids. Dad certainly appreciated not having to get down in the mud to saw through a tree-trunk (we were lucky enough to live near a Christmas Tree farm).

I would go for it if I got to go pick out my tree and cut it down, then someone else dragged it home and hauled it up the steps to the apartment and set it up for me. Extra tip if they will put the lights on it too. $150 is just crazy though.

I have seen these in the llbean catalog and considered buying one (I have an llbean card so shipping should be free)--I live on the 3rd floor without an elevator and kind of liked the idea of making it the ups guy's responsibility to get my tree up the stairs...

now that I have an almost 6 month old who is crawling (backwards so far, but she is thinking about forwards), I'll probably skip the real tree and just pull out the surprisingly nice 3 foot aluminum ones I got from west elm years ago.

i think going to a tree farm, choosing your perfect tree and cutting it down yourself is one of those amazing opportunities for a cherished family tradition that you really should never pass up. how much more can christmas be commercialized and made into nothing but a time to buy as many things as possible? (of course going to a christmas tree farm is not free, but if you've ever been, you know how special it can be.)
how sad.
