Hot or Not? The Babysitter: 3-in-1 Highchair, Swing, Cradle

2009-09-babysitter.jpg

As apartment dwellers we're always on the lookout for multifunctional furniture so we were intrigued by this new British product - the Babysitter - which serves as a cradle and swing for young babies and then transitions into a height-adjustable highchair/toddler chair with removable tray. And it folds up! So...answer to your prayers or trying to do too much? Hotties and notties proceed to voting...

Well, I guess it's perfect for the person who does not want to ever pick up a child.

hmm... buying fewer products might be nice, but I am mildly disturbed by the name...
I'm Canadian and last I heard there were talks about outlawing stroller/carseat combos because babes are often left in them waayyy too long, in a slumped position which does nothing for respiratory development....
this seems like it could pose a similar predicament.

i'm just thinking of a baby swinging in a food-splattered high chair, all day long. the high chairs at our house get very messy.

i love it. we dont have a ton of space and were always cleaning our baby stuff anyway. why not shorten it to one thing instead of three or four. my kid wouldnt let me just leave him in a seat for more than 20 mins at a time. he let me know when it was time for play...which was most all day. i really dont actually KNOW a parent that dosent swoon over there own baby.

I think this is pretty darn cool for those of us living in small spaces. Personally, I am not a fan of having baby stuff all over my house. Not much I can do about it right now, but as soon as he grows out of something (like his swing), I get rid of it! I don't see how having something that converts means you're going to leave them in it longer! Looks great to me as long as there is somewhere to put toys.

I have twin babies in our small apartment. There have been many times I've wished their highchairs also doubled as a rocker to soothe them when they've been fussy since I can't carry them both at the same time.

Where was this 11 months ago. I am on child #3 and the less things I need to purchase the better. This looks dreamy.

LOL at the suggymom's comment. Way to overreact because of a product's name rather than its use. When my son was a small baby we had a separate swing, highchair, and a bassinet (cradle). And we actually used them all. Yet somehow I still managed to hold my son CONSTANTLY. Still do actually.

I think this is a great idea. They should really re-think the name, though.

Right, as though leaving a baby on the floor never happened with neglectful parents.

Neglectful parents will leave their babies anywhere, everywhere.

This has been around for a while in Japan. It's awesome because you don't need to purchase many different pieces of equipment-you just need one! And it does it all.

I enjoy using it and it doesn't mean that I neglect my baby. It's very cost efficient and a space saver. The one I have has a washable seat cover so I can clean up the mess pretty easily.

I think it's great.
I'd gladly pay more money for a product that has multiple uses. You'd likely spend less than getting them all seperate anyway.
One product means less materials, less shipping and less in the landfill.
Most people don't use a swing and a highchair at the same time in their babies lives as they out grow the weight limitations before they start on solids (I live in Canada where they recommend no solids until 6 months).

As far as outlawing travel systems, I think that'd be difficult unless part of it is that the gov't has figured out a way to prevent winter ;)
Seriously, they tell us not to put heavy puffy coats on them because they prevent us from getting the straps tight enough and in a collision the force of the impact flattens the coats and the kids can shoot right out of the seats. So now, we have to dress our infants in lightweight outwear and carry them in -40 weather?
We have three sons and the infant seat was only ever used with the last two. Baby is 4 months old and even if he is asleep when we come home from somewhere he comes out of that seat (unless I need to pee!) immediately.
