It seems as though everyone is getting a makeover nowadays. Who's the latest victim recipient? Dora the Explorer.
According to Yahoo news, the new Dora is not meant to replace the beloved Dora, "...but will be a new interactive doll aimed at 5- to 8-year-olds." Quite a bit of hullabaloo has been made as many parents think the 'tween Dora is too mature looking.

Since Dora is banned in our house, tween Dory is too

I think Dora (regular Dora) is perfectly fine. My little Babe has learned spanish and counting and nice manners from her. But I draw the line at Tween Dora. It's just not time for her to learn about makeup and fashion. Maybe I'll feel different in 7 or 8 years but in the mean time I don't feel like trying to explain why there are two Doras. The fact that her creators just want to make more money off of families with young girls is a little too complex for a two-year old to get.

Seems ok to me.
Clever even, to use a familiar character and lengthen the age range of your target market.
Depends on how she'll talk though, and I'd like to see her a little fatter. Girls of that age do not need another waif to admire.

We're not Dora fans her but...
We need to think about how long Dora has been around, it's been about ten years. So if we take the original viewers of the show, who are probably about 12 or 13. I think it's smart to have a character brand that grows with the children that watch it (although I doubt any 12 or 13 year old is going to be playing with tween Dora). But 5 and 6 are very young for that sort of marketing. She could look less mature, and still get the same effect I think.
Whether it's a moral thing or not, it's damned good marketing if you ask me.

she's an animated character how can you say you want her to be fatter their proportions are always a bit wacky
people need to be giving their kid an excuse to go out and play
turn off the tube and go outside and play with their friends let the kids get some scratches and bruises.........
just leave the annoying one to herself we need less little kids acting like the annoying tv characters

Geez not this again.
Compared to the alternatives on the market, this Dora is not offensive or trampy-'tween-slutty. Or maybe you guys think Bratz are better?

She's cute, tasteful, hopefully not as repetitive as the young Dora :)

I agree that she is better than Bratz, I'd say in a higher league altogether.
I just hope that they keep her as being a bit of an explorer (I heard that she's going to help at Abuelas seniors home and other similar type stuff), and not too much of a priss.

Tween Dora makes me sad.

I think its great. I am not sure what the too mature your talking about actually is. Consider all of the Disney Princesses have breasts. Not to mention Ariel is showing off in her shell top. I know kids that dress just like this tween Dora. I think it would be nice for girls to have a doll that isnt all grown up. I also think her weight isnt a issue. She seemed pudgy to me already.
