Birds, owls and deer dominate children's designs these days so we were somewhat surprised (but also kind of amused) when we saw that the heavyset hippo was the inspiration for DwellStudio for Target's latest kids'design. It's not soft, fuzzy or hugable, but are you hungry for this hippo anyway? Weigh in below!

I just bought this for my daughter's new big-girl bed. It's adorable and nice and soft. She loves the set as well- what kid doesn't like hippos?. I just wish would make coordinating curtains (Dwell, are you listening?) I also love the funky 70s colors which are great for either a boy or a girl.

I feel like I'm in a Sandra Boynton book..."but not the hippopotamus!"

Very sweet...easy to forget that hippos are considered the most dangerous ("wantonly malicious"!) animals in Africa...and to overlook their charming habit of spraying feces and urine.

lol abby! I thought the same thing :)
I think it's super cute, could go for a boy or girl!

We overlook when the baby does it.

ek76, Target has window panels in the hippo pattern online (not in stores). The link above the voting takes you to the whole collection.
I think the set looks great. Most animals (and maybe some people) are cuter in design than in real life :)

Patrick, you crack me up.

ek76 -- Pier 1 Delilah curtains would also look nice with this set, if you wanted to contrast a little.

Hippos have been my favorite animals for years! They may not be as soft and cuddly as a puppy dog, but they are incredibly interesting creatures. Not only are they strong (and dangerous), but the Egyptian goddess Tawaret has a hippo head and represents protection during pregnancy and childbirth.

Love hippos!

I used the hippo crib skirt only in our soon to be born son's nursery and I love it! I also bought the changing pad cover as a backup to the plain white one on there now.

Thanks, Lane C. I forgot about the hippo curtains which I did see, but I don't want the curtains to be exactly the same as the bedspread. That may be too many hippos for us! Love the Delilah curtains- will check that out, mere1975! I thought about the fact that hippos kill more more people than probably any other animals in Africa (except maybe mosquitoes), but at 2.5, I think it's ok if my daughter is not yet aware of this fact. She isn't likely to encounter any wild hippos in out neighborhood!

i love the hippos! i'm pregnant with my 2nd, we don't know the sex yet so i've been bookmarking cute crib sets, and i love the pattern on this one, but is that light color more peach or light pink in person?

I think it's really cute! Then again, I love anything dwell. Really wonderful stuff. I can't wait to use it one day when I have a little one of my own.

The lighter color is neutral in person. A greyish brown. Not pink at all :)

Um, I think its cute but my problem is that everything at the Dwell studio kinda has the same look. I want them to come out with some different patterns. I feel like they are all the "same" except the colors they add and the animals, theme etc they decide to use.

I discovered this on target's website last week and have been obsessed ever since. Not pregnant but I have put the crib skirt and changing cover in my cart and am seriously considering buying it.

i love this! we already have the dwell for target "circles" design bedding set from a couple of years ago, and i think this rug would look cute with it. who doesn't love a hippo?!

Has anyone sent this link to Dooce yet? She's probably kicking herself that Marlo was born several months too late to have these in her bedroom!

Erin, the light color is a light khaki- not at all peach or pink. it's definitely a neutral set.

Is it just me, or is Dwell starting to get boring? I bought the clover crib set for my daughter 3 years ago and could not bring myself to buy another one for my son who was just born. They are all the same. Dwell needs to get some new design inspiration. They were cutting edge 4 years ago, now they are sort of over-done.

hippos hot. colors hot.
i do feel mijsanfran a little. i'd like to see dwellstudio looking forward a little more rather than repeating themselves.
however, i do feel the colors for this are a step forward. (goodbye pink and brown.)
