How Do You Store Your Towels?

2008-03-12-towels.jpg
We grew up with towels that were folded flat in square like packages. When we started our own home, we liked the look of towels that were rolled up and stuck in our container store baskets. But these days...

we're thinking about investing in a giant basket and just throwing the clean towels in there with no folding whatsoever. We're all for quick and simple solutions as things get busier and there's more to do.

How about putting a bunch of hooks up on the wall instead of towel bars and just hang all of the towels on the wall? This would be a great solution for both brand-spankin-new clean towels and towels that still have some reuse in them before it's their time to hit the hamper. This is what we're planning to do in our kids' new bathroom.

Our regular towels are rolled and stored on an open shelf. Towels for dog bath, water play clean up, etc are haphazardly folded and hid in a storage closet. One giant basket of unfolded towels may lead to some confusion about the status (clean, reusable or dirty) of towels.

I like the look of folded towels on a shelf. Our apartment has a narrow linen closet, and I like to see the neat stacks when I open the door. I fold in half, then half again, then thirds, with the folded over part on the outside. It's about the only area in our apt that consistently looks organized.

We roll our towels, all of them are cream colored and the same brand, they fit on a shelf in our bathroom. We have two hooks by the shower and before we get in the shower we hang a clean towel on a hook ready for when we get out of the shower.

We have a towel rack which is mounted on the hinges of the bathroom door. I worked at a houseware retailer a million years ago and will always fold my towels so that the decorative border is on the right of the towel. Then I hang them on the rack.

I do really like the idea, though of hanging them on hooks...
