DIY Maracas

2009-04-15-maracas.jpg

April is bringing a lot of showers for us so we're looking for as many fun indoor projects we can get our hands on. This idea for DIY maracas from Babyccino has us desperate for a pot of Mod Podge.

Gather your usual papier-mache ingredients: torn newspaper, flour, water, salt and colored tissue paper. Then for the form, you'll need lightbulbs. Once you've covered the entire bulb and allowed it to dry, break the light bulb by hitting it against a hard surface. The pieces will make a crisp rattling sound. We were a bit worried about letting the kids play with broken glass(!) but a thick layer of papier-mache should do the trick. Paint on the colored tissue paper as the last step, let dry and shake away. You can read more detailed directions here.
