Fabric Labels

2008-09-26-labels.jpg

We despise the itchy labels on the backs of baby's shirts and pants. When possible we usually cut them out which sometimes leaves us wondering whether we're looking at the front or back. So we're thinking tacking in a personalized fabric label, like the ones above, would be fun and useful.

You'll need to gather the following supplies: computer, graphics program and an inkjet printer, regular printer paper, iron-on transfer paper, utility knife, cutting mat & metal ruler, ribbon, iron & ironing board, and scissors.

Check out the detailed tutorial at Patchwork Pottery. This would make a great gift for a friends as well.

seems like a lot of work. couldn't one just make a small dot with a sharpie in an inconspicuous area? that might bleed through though... hmm.

If the front and back aren't readily visibly different, then does it matter?

Cute, but wouldn't you end up with the same problem as when you started. For a handmade sweater, (it did matter on this one b/c the front neckline is lower, but you can't easily tell b/c it's a turtleneck) I once took some thread in a different color than the sweater and made a little "X". Voila, the "X" marks the back.
