We stay clear of fashion here on Ohdeedoh. There's thousands of other blogs that catalog the category quite well, but one thing we are big proprietors of, is keeping things clean, tidy, organized and paired down to have a healthier and clutter free life. Which is why we want you to clean out your closets and then turn your old tshirts into baby gowns. Details after the jump...
It's hard to get rid of things that you had an attachment to in your youth. Tshirts especially. In highschool and college they were (and could still be) a flag flown for acceptance of others who might enjoy the same muscial stylings as you. They were a second skin and could be trampled on your dorm room floor for days and still be re-worn before washing. How could you ever get rid of something like that?
For some it's easy, purge and donate. But for others who are having a hard time letting go, we think this tutorial for making your old band shirts into a baby gown, is a great way to keep the good times rolling while keeping things organized. This Mama Makes Stuff has made some great user friendly PDF's to get you transforming your old apparel in no time at all!

this is such a great idea, and it is two days too late! I just cleaned out my closet and dressers in order to make room for the baby. maybe goodwill will give them back...

I've seen this before and saved it because I lived the idea but I do have one question. Here in Germany baby gowns are very uncommon - in fact I've just seen them on Maggie from the Simpsons. Are they used instead of pj's? and isn't it cold for the baby if the bottom part isn't closed like that? and don't get the baby's feet get tangled up in the whole?
I'd really like some input on this!

Gowns are great!! I used them for my daugther in place of pjs for the first 6 months or so. The best part is that during the half-asleep diaper change there are no snaps or buttons to undo, just roll up the gown and there's the diaper. Most gowns I have are super long so it covers their feet and I never found her getting tangled up. I plan on using them for my second which is due in a couple of months. Love them. Now I just need to find some awesome t-shirts and get crafting.

Great! Thanks! I think I'll give them a try - don't know if I get to make one before my baby arrives but if I get around it tomorrow I might be lucky ;o)
