How To: Edible Lip Gloss

2009-05-07-lipgloss.jpg

It's a safe bet that some time soon, your little one will be asking about make-up. The most irresistible item in our mom's bag was the juicy lip gloss. We found a great recipe to make inexpensive and safe flavored edible lip gloss over at Parent Hacks.

Just gather the following ingredients: vegetable shortening, honey, unsweetened drink mix (Kool-Aid), hot water, and cake decorating glitter (optional). Mix 1 tbsp of solid vegetable shortening with 1 tsp of honey to make the base. In a separate bowl, mix the drink mix and 1/4 tsp of hot water until it is dissolved. Stir in as much of the drink mix as possible. Then add one drop of the water mixture to the base and stir well. Repeat until you get the color/flavor combination you want. If you choose, add glitter and stir. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to three days. It's a fun way to spend a quiet afternoon indoors or invite some friends over and make different flavors.

Why can this only be stored for three days? What part of it can go off?

three days in the frig does not make sense, especially considering all the ingredients have a long shelf life.
