How To: Kids' Travel Pillows

Kids and sleep is always a tricky issue and usually more so when you travel. So anything you can do to ensure some Z's during the trip is worth it. Here are four great tutorials for making kids' travel pillows to help your kids sleep in transit and to have something comforting from home when sleeping in a new place.

Maya of Maya*Made made travel pillows for her kids with the adorable and practical twist of adding a handle. The handle makes it easy to carry, clip to a backpack or hang up. (Great idea - shouldn't every pillow have a handle?) She's written up a comprehensive tutorial so you can make your own.

Next up is a camp pillow made by Blair of Wise Craft for her daughter Emma's first time by herself at sleepaway camp. Not only will the pillow remind Emma of her mom, but Blair has included a pocket for a stuffed version of the family cat, Gracie. We bet Emma will enjoy showing this off to her new camp friends and we imagine it being clutched to her chest during some good old fashioned ghost stories around the campfire. Not a full tutorial on pillow making, but Blair shares more photos and how she made a stuffed Gracie here.

If you've never made a pillow before you might want to start with Ariel's travel pillow - small, simple, super cute and she's written a detailed phototutorial on The Creative Juices of Ariel so you can follow along.

Does your child suffer from bobble head syndrome (BHS)? A pint-sized travel pillow will ease BHS when you're on the road and Ashley shows you how to make it at Make It and Love It (trust us - we just made it and we love it!)

Thank you Maya, Blair, Ariel and Ashley for beautiful inspiration to make life on the go a little bit more comfortable!

Thanks so much Carrie for including our camp pillow! It was a big hit with Emma at camp (and even now that she's back home).

We have a big 16 hour flight coming up in two weeks wiht our 2.5 year old and a friend gave us the great idea to go and buy a standard size pillow that's flat and compacted in it's bag yet to be opened. This way you can take the comfy full-sized pillow for little ones, cut it open when you get on the plane and if they have a window seat they have full body comfort. You can then either leave the pillow on the plane (a bit wasteful) or bring home and have another new pillow! I think it's genius and hope it helps us out to make her more comfy.
