How To: Make a Choco Taco

chocotacoTOPPIC.jpgFile this one under gross but good. Who could forget the Choco Taco? While the Choco Taco came into our periphery when we were in our 20s, it still made an impact. The waffle taco shell, the ice cream filling, the chocolate and nut "salsa" -- it was hard to resist. We've heard they sell them at Taco Bell, but we haven't been to a Taco Bell in ages. One way to quench the Choco Taco itch is by making one from scratch.

Erin Zimmer, of Serious Eats, recently posted a Choco Taco recipe that you'll want to share with the kids. Half the fun of eating this Choco Taco is making it and unlike a regular Choco Taco, this one is made with real ingredients sans artificial colors or flavors.

To make your own Choco Taco, you'll need:

• 2 eggs
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 2 to 3 teaspoons milk
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/3 cup flour
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup cocoa powder
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup water
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• Dash of salt

We can still get Choco Tacos here in the Midwest, both at our tiny local grocery and the community pool. This is an awesome idea and we are definitely going to try it!!
