Aussie mom, Cheryl, makes and sells Lidmen both to delight children and to make use of small plastic lids which are not recyclable in most communities. She designs and makes each Lidman that she sells and notes that small children love the rattling sound they make when shaken.

Cheryl makes people, robots and animals out of lids - most sell for around $30 AUD. She also sells kits ($18) with 30 lids, string and instructions so you or or your kids can make your own.
If you want to save up your own lids, Cheryl provides a detailed tutorial on how to make them. She uses a drill and a lighter so these definitely require adult help and supervision. See the Lidmen tutorial here.
These are so great! What a clever idea, it really takes a great eye to come up with the different characters and colorways. Great design execution.
Thanks to Cheryl/Lidmen for sharing your tutorial! I think I will start saving my lids and caps now.

This is the best recycling idea i've seen in forever.
And so well conceived. Absolutely brilliant.
