How To: Pull Top Party Favors

051309-pulltab.jpg We love repurposing items and we love giving gifts, so when we came across this party favor idea, our little creative hearts went wild! It's a simple (we promise) process that anyone can tackle and end up with rave results. They're perfect for a birthday party, shower, or even giving small gifts, see the end result after the jump!

051309-pulltab1.jpg We ran across these pull tab party favors over at Crafts On A Whim, who have put together a fantastic tutorial with step by step photos. The key is having a can opener to remove the bottom of your can of choice without leaving a sharp edge.

There are lots of cans that have pull tabs once you start looking for them. The first ones that spring to mind are fruit cans, but canned seafood and cat food can also have them. Just make sure that each can you use can be cleaned COMPLETELY before reusing (no one wants to open a can full of M&M's that smell like tuna fish still).

Hopefully you can put the contents of your can to good use, if you are making a mass quantity of these in a short amount of time, please don't overdose on pineapple and mandarin oranges, you can instead freeze them in ice cube trays or small zip locks to be used in summer fruit smoothies later on (or at your party)!

Since the cans are small, they would be a great way to use up those little, skinny left over strips of scrap book papers floating around in your craft drawers! Not to mention small pieces of ribbon and the like.

See the full tutorial for all the details!

Sounds great, but aren't the tops of these pull cans sharp when you open them? It might not be the best idea to give these out to little kids....what do you think? Unless the thinking is that a little kid can't open it alone..?
