Where the Wild Things Are is a popular birthday party theme right now. And, if seeing our recent
WTWTA posts have you itching to throw a
wild party, rejoice! Sheila and her husband, Nat, recently threw a big rumpus for their daughter's second birthday and the results were fun and completely charming - - and easy to recreate.
Nat put together a blog with suggestions on how to throw a Where the Wild Things Are themed party with minimal expenses. With everything from a cardboard boat to labels for chocolate bars, the inspiration on the blog are a-plenty. Nat's Flickr account also gives us great visual tutorials.
Thanks for the tip!
We had a Wild Thing Party for our three year old recently a little while back, here is a link to the big event:

We just had a WTWTA-themed party for our two-year-old, too, though ours was much less elaborate. Our son wore his beloved Max Halloween costume and we had the kids decorate "king of all wild things" crowns (strips of yellow scalloped border from the teacher store, plus shiny stickers and feathers.) We read the story aloud, and when we got to the Wild Rumpus, we gave each kid a crown and some maracas and played "Rumpus" (essentially, Freeze Dance, but with "Be wild!/Be still!" instead of "Freeze!") The goody bags included a mini book from Sendak's Nutshell library. It was hardly as thorough a theme as the amazing party described here, but we had a lot of fun!
