Even if you aren't inclined to make this fabulous hanging letter writing center (which Future Craft Collective authors are sharing instructions for on Craft), there are great ideas in their post for encouraging your kids to write letters (real, actual letters on paper) to foster connections with far-flung family.
Moms Bernadette and Katie of Future Craft Collective have lots of strategies for getting your kids interested in letter writing and their writing center helps keep everything in one place including stationery and post cards (that your kids can make), stamps and small cards with ideas of things to write about to help prompt kids' creativity.
They walk you through constructing the writing center in their post, part of Craft's Summer Camp series. If you can't sew or don't have the time, you can still get inspiration for other writing centers you can make and ways to facilitate the dying art of the (hand)written word.
what a beautiful idea! my daughter's 5th birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, and i was going to get her some "real" postage stamps, envelopes and letter paper to write letter to her grandparents and cousins, as well as some "pretend" rubber postage stamps (like the Cavallini & Co. ones) so she can also write letters to her friends... definitely going to knock up a little letter writing pocket station like that - maybe one for her and one for me!

My 3.5-year-old made a mailbox out of a cardboard box for her little sister's room. Big sis loves to drop "mail" in there now and then.
I've always thought it'd be cute to find them each a small vintage mailbox (the vertical kind, shaped like a rectangle) and mount them on the wall outside their bedrooms for the same purpose.
