Make This Entryway Storage Bench This Weekend

The sound of wet shoes squeaking on hardwood floors is one of our pet peeves. It means dirty shoes are tracking in things we don't want into the house. The solution for us is a storage bench in the entryway where the kids can sit down, remove their shoes, store them away and go off to play.

We found this great looking storage bench on the Do It Yourself site this morning. Reading over the project description, we're convinced it's something that can be made over a weekend. The bench is actually a kitchen cabinet turned on its side. Paint or stain it to your liking, maybe change out the hardware, attach the door to the cabinet with a chain to prevent the door from falling onto the floor. We're also thinking that a magnet closure would ensure that the door doesn't fall open on its own. Add a cushion covered in your favorite fabric and you're done.

You guys are psychic, I swear. Just when I needed a mudroom DIY solution, there you are to hand it to me on a spray painted platter. Perfect.

I like it. We don't have kids, so I would probably mount it to the wall instead of making it into a seat.

If you added a shelf, you could fit several pairs of adult shoes.

Looks like the whole thing might tip over if the door is chained like that... might need a mount-to-wall thingy.
