Official White House Birth Greeting

2009-03-whitehouse.jpg

Did you know you can request an Official White House Birth Greeting? A friend mentioned it to us, we looked into it, and it's true! What a nice, historical memento to pass along to your child or include in a scrapbook or memory box.

According to eHow, your request for a greeting from the President must be made after your child's birth, but before his or her first birthday. The White House website hasn't updated their online form yet, but in the meantime you can write or fax your request. The White House Greetings Office also accepts requests to honor birthdays (80 years and older), weddings, bar/bat mitvahs and earning either the Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold Award.

Who knew?

yeah i think my boys' grandparents requested some for them, because they came in the mail one day without any prompting from us. unfortunately, they were from the last administration.

Yes, I got one from Bush last year after my son was born. My grandparents had also received one for their 70th wedding anniversary and my grandpa for his 100th birthday. They are definitely nice keepsakes!

It's true - but you can do this with other things too. I mailed my high school graduation notice to the White House and got a very nice congratulatory card. I thought it was pretty cool!

Bush was in office when both my kids were born, so I didn't request one. I'd love to have an Obama card.

One of our local elected officials does this for constituents. If you put a birth announcement in the local paper, she sends a note to you and also passes the announcement along to the White House. I guess she's banking on still being in office when the baby turns 18 and can vote!

Oh JOY! I just did this for my one year old son... who incidentally helped register voters and sleep peacefully next to me as I called swing states for Obama :-)
