Reusing Baby Food Jars

2009-07-29-babyfood.jpg

Reusing glass baby food jars isn't a new idea. The chubby pots make for great containers for all manner of items - craft and sewing supplies, spices, spare change. But we always have one complaint about the jars that Craftynest resolved.

The unattractive lids. We like the uniform look of the jars when the labels are removed but the lids ruin the effect. Instead of stopping there, give the lids a makeover. Spraypaint the lids with primer and paint and voila - a handsome set of matching jars. We love the robin's egg blue shown here.

I knew I'd been saving those jars for a reason. So pretty.

i have a billion baby food jars saved but I'm reluctant to use them because I'm having such a hard time removing the residual glue from the labels. I've tried lots of methods, but that is some very stubborn glue

Ali V try a straight edge blade. it will get it off. thats what i use on most glass like when we renew the stickers on the car and it leaves that sticky goo.

Goo Be Gone is also a handy product for removing that.

Try vodka or rubbing alcohol on the sticky goo. It just might do the trick.

This looks so wonderful. When my (now preshoolers) were infants, it seemed the glass jars grew harder and harder to find. (Or maybe that was just my sleep deprivation.)

I am holding on to some jars for this type of reuse when they're old enough to obey when I say, "don't touch!"

Is that a drawer organizer used as a shelf? I love it!

Alcohol and vodka are definitely not what you use to get glue off. Using a solvent to remove sticky doesn't work. A Hot water, a straight razor, then vegetable oil to remove any residual stickiness.

Just offering a suggestion that works for me. Someone gave me the vodka tip when I was trying to remove some stubborn label residue and it worked like a charm. I just dipped a paper towel some vodka and it rubbed away the sticky stuff. (soaked the glass in hot water first) Vegetable oil sounds like a good idea too! Thanks.
