Every teen envisions their dream room, but how many actually get to have it? Why wait for it happen, when you can do something about it? AT reader, Kim, contacted us to share the news of the budding design star in her home, 12-year-old daughter Scarlett, who took it upon herself to write up plans for the room of her dreams...
Kim writes..."She [Scarlett] is most helpful when picking out new furnishings or when we are rearranging furniture...imagine my delight when I got up this morning to find this pasted to the refrigerator door. Apparently Scarlett's sinus medication had her wired and instead of waking me up with the TV, she got up and graphed her room...she did not have a measuring tape so she walked it off in Square Scarlett Feet".

Among the changes Scarlett wants to make to her is a change is creating a brown, white, blue, green and pink color scheme, getting rid of the mahogany bed (Kim adds, “She has a lovely carved mahogany bed now and it just kills me to replace with something IKEA-ish.”) in exchange for a platform bed, and changing the walls to a bright pink.
Kim totally supports the changes, too, “While I am in love with her carved mahogany antique bed - maybe its not the coolest in teen room décor so I am willing to concede to her design. I realized Scarlett will be going off to college in 6 years so I think I can live with cheap furniture for a few years. And bless her heart - she went to such pains with her plan - we can't not execute.”
Scarlett took these shots of her bedroom in the "Before" stage:

And, she will be sending us shots of the room when it's all done. We can't wait to see what you've come up with Scarlett!

Cool! Good luck Scarlett -- can't wait to see the result!

Scarlett, I am so proud of you. Cannot wait to see the finished results. Even at your age you have such promise as being a decorator, or anything you set out to be. Too bad Nanny does not have a computer, but I will be sure to keep this and show she and Papa. We are very proud of you. Also, how wonderful that you have a mother that supports your interests. Make sure you give her the respect she deserves. I love you.
