apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Close-up: Ronnie & Viktoria's Teenage Kids' Rooms

Last summer over at AT:Chicago, we featured a vibrant East Lakeview house tour -- one of the few in which we've seen the rooms of teenagers. We've known plenty of parents who eventually stop caring about how their growing kids' rooms look (a "just close the door" policy). But Ronnie and Viktoria and their kids seemed to have found that delicate balance between individual expression and a household's overall unity and order: the fun flows throughout the home, evidenced in colors, collections, toys and artwork. Close up here, our favorite parts of the teens' rooms:

We love:

  • Collection of framed pups

  • Ugly dolls and snakes hanging and peeking out from behind headboards

  • Purple tie dye bedspreads

  • No one's trying to hide that there's STUFF being stored under the bed

  • Hanging collection of donut keychains

  • Red and gray locker shelves against bright yellow-orange walls

  • Kung Fu and Marilyn Monroe posters coexisting in the same room
